Hi mypug,

I bought it second hand 2012 from a lady.
Overall test drive not bad.
But the FC abit unreliable. Getting 10 to 8km/l.
Pumped with Esso 95.

I'm looking for dash media upgrade to touchscreen with GPS and reverse cam without removing Peugeot sensor monitor.

Also, I'm wondering if any of 508 owner pumps in JB twice a month. Would like to join in for fuel saving.

Workshop wise, I've called Peugeot Service quoted $172 not sure if is cheap or moderate.

Today is my 2nd of my ride, the keyless entry seem like not working under 6hours of hot sun parking. Same as my previous conti ride. Not sure if all conti cars are like that.

Mypug, please share some tips with me on how to take care of this lion.

Mine is also a 2012 car which I bought 2nd hand in 2013.  Currently, my mileage is almost 100k.  

My fuel consumption is around 10~11km/l with about 70~80% highway.  Fuel consumption will be below 10km/l if there is a lot of city driving.

While it is a nice car in terms of design (subjective i know), comfort and performance, unfortunately it is not all good news.  From my experience, the time and money spend on maintaining this car for 3+ years is a lot more than 12 years of driving 2 different Toyota models.

For maintenance tips, a few basic things to watch out:
1.  Engine oil level
2.  Coolant level
3. Get a fault code reader (Bluetooth OBD-II dongle + preferred app on your mobile)

Issues that others have reported (some I had the "chance" to experience):
1.  Engine oil leaks
2.  Coolant leaks
3.  Fuel pump and High Pressure Fuel pump failure
4.  Fouled intake manifold leading to reduced performance
5.  Air con compressor failure
6.  Assortment of minor electronic issues
7.  Window lifter failure
8.  Turbocharger failure

And of course there is a low service level/attitude and lack of expertise at Autofrance.

Apologies  if the above gave you a rude shock and especially since you just got the car.

Hmm... it seems like I have been seduced by the comfort , spacious and price ($10,700 depre/yr) of this lion and accidentally step into lion den.

My humble request if you could share some tips on the following issues you encountered and how much does it costs you to repair with Auto France : parts and labour.

I called Auto France to check on the records of the 508, was referred to Quicklane.
Was quoted $164.80 before GST.

been to Antz and Thomas n Partners before, definitely cheaper than AF.

Air compressor replacement and HPFP about $700 ea,  Window lifter ~$400.  All done outside AF which will be $200~400 more at least

Never driven my 508 to JB before but I do know some Peugeot owners service/repair there, quite good savings it seems.  Quite tempted actually.

You intend to service in JB?

AF wants to charge you $160 to view service records?  Typical.  They also want to charge $200+ to update the GPS map

When I got my car, I just went down to AF to update them that I am the new owner after that can check the servicing records.

Also, spare parts can get from Transhua or Kian Hua, then just ask workshops to install.

Was quoted $172/GST for regular servicing. Updating the GPS map for $200.. hmm.. I think I will use my phone instead.

Btw I realised something that there's power loss in gear switching 3 and 4 while slow down and pick up during expressway driving. Not sure if is norm for THP .

Any good 5w30 synthetic oil and spark plugs to recommend?
Also, tyre and rims I'm thinking of changing to 17inch from 18inch for common size tyre.

For the power loss after slow down, sometimes I do experience it. Didn't notice which gear I'm in then but what I experienced was that when I step on accelerator, the car takes a second or so then it speeds up. Dunno is it the engine or turbo.

I have been using various brands of EO - Shell, Pennzoil (which is Shell in US, if I am not wrong), Castrol and Liqui Moly. Also tried 0w30, 5w30, 10w30 grades. Doesn't make much difference after a while. Some owners believe that any oil will do, just change more frequently, like 5k instead of 10k.

Still using the original spark plugs which is actually NGK, 1 change so far. I do have a set of NGK iridium plugs which I intend to use at the next change.

For 18", the tyre size is 235/45 and they are not so common.

My name is Thomas and I am a newbie reporting to this Peugeot forum. I just collected a used 2011 508 Allure. Wanted a Passat initially but this 508 beauty caught my eye and can't resist its interior beauty. Plus a yearly depreciation of $10k certainly makes this ride well worth it.

My previous ride was a bimmer & C180, so when comes to a french car, i am a 100% newbie. Drove the 508 for 2 days and cant help but to notice the car vibrates quite badly during idling (traffic lights). Can some expert out there advise is this the characteristic of Peugeot cars? (salesman told me it is). Or there is something going wrong underneath the bonnet? Thank you!!!

Vibrations during idling can be due to various reasons. One of the could be choking of the inlet valves. Can consider decarbonization to remove the carbon deposits. Google "Prince engine" for more info.

My mileage is 65k for a 6 year old car. I have googled ' prince engine' but the problem is how do we explain to the mechanics? Hahaha, most of them doesnt speak english well as they are malaysians. And also not all know peugeot cars well. LOL.

Hi there, thank you so much for the recommendation. But i do have another question. My 508 is a Allure model which doesn't come with the on board GPS and center control knob. I realised that there is no audio volume control on the audio head unit. There is 2 knobs (left & right), the right knob can be turn to scroll menus but the left knob is fixed. I can only adjust the audio volume on my steering wheel. Is this suppose to be normal and is this how it was being made? Curious. Thanks

Mine only has one knob on the left side of the audio head unit control panel. It can be used turn on/off the head unit and adjust the volume.

Normally, I will use the steering wheel volume controls and mute buttons to control the volume.

The only strange thing for me is that there is no play/pause/stop buttons for the CD player. Had to use the source button to emulate pause

Yes i notice that too. Mine doesnt come with all those controls on the head unit and i believed all models comes with only 1 CD player (no multi disc changer). And i also reckon my left knob is faulty which i cant turn the knob to adjust the volume.

By the way, do you have any idea where can i install the head unit GPS navi system? Do you know how much it cost?
